Liquid and cream highlighters

Fair skin (tone I–II)
Pearl and silvery highlighters with dominant Mica and white interference pigments work best. Golden tones can look too intense — opt for a loose version and apply lightly. Avoid highlighters with a high Bismuth Oxychloride content if you have rosacea-prone or reactive skin.
Medium skin (tone III–IV)

Highlighter longevity — what does it depend on?
How long highlighter makeup lasts depends on several factors:
- Foundation and makeup primer — a dry texture holds highlighter better than a dewy one
- The product formula — highlighters with silicones and film-forming polymers (e.g. PVP) last longer
- The application method — a kabuki brush deposits less pigment than a finger, but gives a more even result

Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163) is approved by CosIng and EU Regulation 1223/2009 as a cosmetic pigment. However, in some people with acne or sensitive skin it can cause redness or irritation — it's worth doing a patch test on a small area of skin before applying it fully.
For oily skin, pressed highlighters with Silica (a blur effect) and no oils in the formula work best. Avoid cream and liquid formulas — they can increase the skin's shine. Apply highlighter only to the cheekbones, nose and Cupid's bow, steering clear of the centre of the forehead and chin (the T-zone).
Traditional glitter made from PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is gradually being replaced by biodegradable cellulose glitter or Mica. Plastic particles can irritate mucous membranes and eyes — avoid them around the eye area. Mica is safe for external application.
